There are a number of stereotypes how a typical dangerous driver looks like – young and reckless males with an insurmountable desire to show off or females who use every stop at a traffic light to check out appearance in the mirror, or elderly people who tend to make unpredictable moves in most inappropriate moments, for instance, driving in the opposite direction on a one way street.
Data collected and analyzed by the journalists of The Telegraph suggests that none of the above described groups matches actual aggressors on the road. Insurance claims reveal that the drivers of which anyone taking part in the traffic should avoid are accountants. If the groups of people are categorized by their occupation, it turns out that accountants are the ones who bear the highest risk of potential peril on the road – this group accounts for as much as 16 thousand insurance claims in the United Kingdom in 2015. Obtained data allows to acknowledge the truth of comedian group Monty Python sketch where accountant has decided to switch his career to one of a lion trainer. There is a decent dose of truth in this as accountants deep inside have a prompt and adventure seeking heart.
Accountants are closely followed by other solid occupations – lawyers, financial advisers and bank managers, each of the group having about 15 thousand claims caused by their action. Additionally to these white collar occupations in top 10 you will also find doctors, pharmacists, IT professionals and more.
In contrast, the best drivers in the UK are considered to be roofers. They account for only 3850 traffic accidents in 2015. With a total of 4000 accidents farm workers follows.
People have obvious prejudices on how different occupation representatives behave on the road. This research refutes part of the myths and shows that actually the worst drivers are the ones who we typically entrust our safety and well-being.
